Bundles of uncovered currency notes were loaded onto an open van in full public view in Nalgonda district on Thursday, a rare sight in a small town. Due to the shortage of covered cash vans, Andhra Pradesh Grameena Vikas Bank (APGVB) officials allowed the loading of Rs 40 crore cash onto a hired trolley to transport it to a branch of APGVB in Nalgonda on Thursday.

The locals were thrilled to see currency notes of such a huge amount.

In view of Rythu Bandhu scheme launch on Thursday, large quantities of cash was reportedly kept with SBI's RP Road main branch at the Clock Tower Centre. Cash for all the five banks involved was being supplied from SBI's cash chest. Generally, banks transport money in closed vans under a tight security cover. AS APGVB had no closed van available to transport the money, they transported Rs 40 crore in an open trolley with three constables.
While some people criticised the carelessness of bank officials, other defended the step saying timely cash delivery was more important.
